Tomodachi Life grid · FAQ

Quick answers about the toolkit and how each tool maps to the in-game Palette House.

What is Tomodachi Grid?
Tomodachi Grid is a free, browser-based toolkit for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. It includes a pixel-art Grid Maker, a complete canvas size reference, an Island Layout Planner, and a Designs Gallery — all in one place, no signup, no install.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Every tool on Tomodachi Grid is free and runs entirely in your browser. Your images, layouts, and saved projects stay on your device — we don't upload them to a server.
Does it work on Switch 2?
Yes. The palette and brush mappings work for both Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. You don't need Switch 2 mouse mode to use the toolkit.
Can I import designs directly into the game?
No — Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has no built-in image import. That's why the Grid Maker outputs a recipe card: it tells you the brush, mode, and step-by-step paint sequence so you can recreate any design in the Palette House manually.
Which tool should I start with?
If you want to turn an image into paintable pixel art, start with the Grid Maker — it is the fastest path from photo to recipe card. If you want more control over dithering and style, use the Pixel Art Maker. Planning where buildings go on your island? Open the Island Planner. You can move a result from one tool to the next.
What is the difference between the Grid Maker and the Pixel Art Maker?
The Grid Maker is paint-by-numbers focused: simple controls and a recipe card, best for "I want to paint this exact design in-game". The Pixel Art Maker is style-focused: four dithering algorithms, edge enhancement, and side-by-side compare. Pick whichever matches your goal.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. Every tool runs in your browser — nothing to download, no account, no extension. It works on desktop and mobile, and your images and layouts are processed locally on your device.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The toolkit is responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop. On a small screen the tools scroll into a single column; you can still upload images, adjust settings, and export or share your result.
Is this an official Nintendo product?
No. Tomodachi Grid is an unaffiliated fan toolkit. Tomodachi Life is a registered trademark of Nintendo. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo.
