  1. Pick face-on references. Sanrio characters are identified by their face. Avoid three-quarter views — straight-on portraits read instantly even at 32×32.
  2. Use Balanced, not Detailed. Sanrio designs use a handful of large shapes. 32×32 is enough — 64×64 just slows down your in-game painting time.
  3. Turn dithering OFF. Flat white fur (Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll), flat lilac (Kuromi), or flat yellow (Pompompurin) need clean blocks. Dithering destroys the trademark look.
